About Matt

Matt Cameron lives in Timaru, New Zealand and is a counselor, teacher, and tennis referee. He also enjoys being a home handyman, building or fixing things.

He works comfortably with all ages and genders. He began teaching in 1997 and has been working in South Canterbury as the Oceans Grief and Loss Coordinator since 2012 and has been applying the Solution Focused approach to his work since 2016.

He enjoys various sports and has played competitive tennis, badminton, soccer, rugby and most recently fistball - being selected to play in the NZ masters team (you can google “fistball” ;-).

He has been a member of the SFU (Solution Focused Universe) since 2019 and is convinced that this client-centred, strength-based, multi-cultural, and user-friendly approach is life-changing and applicable to every situation.

“Solution Focus (SF) is a powerful and pragmatic approach to positive change. It enables people to build the change they desire in the shortest possible time. It improves relationships and builds people’s resources. It came into being through the pioneering work of Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg and their team, initially in the areas of social work and therapy. They found out that focusing on solutions and what is wanted brings better outcomes more quickly than focusing on the problem.”
Susanne Burgstaller and Chris Iveson, “Team Talk, Building Excellence with Solution Focused Skills”

Come on a hope-filled journey of change, joy, and possibility. Matt is a Christian and believes the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples to pray, which desires a better future:

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” -Matthew 6:10
